"Human beings make a strange fauna and flora. From a distance they appear negligible; up close they are apt to appear ugle and malicious. More than anything they need to be surrounded with sufficient space-space even more than time."

-Henry Miller

Said in a story written in Paris. Yet he was in love with Paris and even with enough money to leave and return to America or to the country he did not, for love of the city.

Just finished this book and I loved the vocabulary he chose to use. Highly recommend it.

That's my favorite book ever.
And actually, that's my favorite quote from this book.
There's a book by Miller titled 'Air-conditioned nightmare' about his trip back to America. It's also great, maybe you'd like to read it.
